Green light for $60m St Bede’s revamp

By Julia Evans ST BEDE’S College will get its $60 million revamp. Resource consent has been granted for the project which will start next year. Work includes replacing the catholic school’s chapel and Grimes Block classrooms, as well as earthquake strengthening and extending its performing arts centre. The college also has plans to build a brand new 750m2 sports pavilion and gym, adjacent to the existing hockey field. But because the school is a state integrated catholic school, the Ministry of Education is not funding the work. The chapel will cost $3.5 million and its construction will be the first to begin next year. The St Bede’s Old Boy’s Association is rallying to raise $1.5 million, so the balance will be met by a $1 million grant from the Society of Mary and $1 million from the school’s board of proprietors insurance.

The college has been without a chapel since 2012, converting an old science building for masses. The chapel was repaired following the September 4, 2010, earthquake but was ultimately claimed by the February 22, 2011, earthquakes after being deemed irreparable. “The proposed chapel has a footprint of 425m2 (excluding the covered porch area) and a first floor gallery area. It will provide seating for up to 300 people,” the plan submitted to the city council said. The modern building has been designed by architects Wilkie and Bruce to mirror the past but also look to the future. Expansions to the performing arts centre, which will be beside the new chapel, includes a new foyer and toilet area. It will take up part of the space the assembly hall had occupied before it was demolished. The rest of that space will be taken up by the new chapel. •Turn to page 13

Tuesday October 17 2017 FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK

THE EARTHQUAKE took care of a lot of old and historic buildings, and St Bede’s College wasn’t spared either. As we reveal today on page 1, resource consent has been granted for the school’s $60 million revamp. It will start next year and will give the school a very modern look. Some of the old buildings that weren’t affected by the quake will stay so the connection to the past will remain. A lot of work for builders, roofers, carpet layers, plumbers . . . and that can’t be bad for the local economy. Marist Albion’s Daniel Fransen was named men’s sevens player of the year at the recent Canterbury rugby awards evening (see page 14). Fransen had an outstanding season with the Canterbury side, scoring 12 tries and also kicking goals. - Barry Clarke

Fletcher backs Cranford St businesses Opposition to Northern Arterial plan is building By Julia Evans CONSTRUCTION giant Fletcher Building has mirrored the concerns of small businesses on Cranford St over Northern Arterial plans. Last month Nor’West News revealed Small World Preschool and Nursery and the Cranford Ale House fear they will have to shut their doors if designs for the Northern Arterial go ahead as currently planned. All on-street parking will be lost when cycleways are put in on either side of the road between McFaddens Rd and the rural zone. Fletcher Building, which owns PlaceMakers and Mico Plumbing on Cranford St, is worried about the current designs affecting its businesses. In a statement, Fletcher Building said it participated in the public submission process with the city council and took the previous plan to the Environment Court last year. “We signed-off on an agreed plan through an Environment

Court mediation process.” But it said a recent version of the plan it had received includes a variation regarding parking. “We are looking to work constructively with the city

council to ensure a satisfactory outcome.” Fletcher Building would not say if it will take the city council back to court if the initial designs stamped by the Environ-

ment Court were not followed. City council acting manager planning, delivery and transport Mike Jacobson said the city council is investigating whether or not it is bound to the design set by the court. “The city council will respond to the concerns raised when it has completed its assessment and met with the affected parties,” he said. Designs will be finalised by Christmas, Mr Jacobson said. Owner of Small World Preschool and Nursery, Keith Wayman, said he received a phone call last week from Fletcher Building asking how it could help make sure on-street parking was kept. “Fletcher is not going to sit by and watch its two businesses be destroyed,” Mr Wayman said. Cranford Ale House owner Andrew Norton is meeting with his lawyer and has been in contact with Christchurch Central MP and former lawyer Duncan Webb. Mr Wayman said the preschool could not afford a lawyer of its own, as it had already spent “a few thousand” dollars getting U-turning bays on Cranford St included in the Northern Arterial design.

In Brief NO CROSSING Farrington Ave, Bishopdale, will not get a pedestrian crossing after a request to the city council. City council staff surveyed the area and found, on average, there were two or three pedestrians crossing between Isleworth Rd and Vauxhall St per hour. Staff said that was a low rate compared to the rest of the city. BURNSIDE BARBECUE The barbecue at Burnside Park, donated to the city council by the Wigram Lions Club, has been installed and the shelter is complete. The power connection is the next step in the process, with community access to the barbecue planned for the summer season. PUPIL’S INVENTION WINS St Patrick’s School pupil Amanda MacArthur won a $100 Sharpie pack for her school from the Colour Your Classroom competition run by OfficeMax. There were more than 790 entries from across the country with pupils explaining in 300 words what they would invent to make life easier for people. Amanda’s invention was a popup watch which tells the time when it’s too dark to see.

to complete the people-focussed facilities like the library and the metro sports facility. Homes are a really significant issue in Christchurch, though perhaps in a different kind of way than elsewhere. One thing I would love to see and encourage is genuinely affordable homes within the inner city for a mix of young people, families and older people. That will be essential to making the city vibrant and successful. Great public parks, spaces and facilities will assist with this – as will the new retail and hospitality projects.

ANNEX RD

She expertly multi tasks while answering the relentlessly ringing phones-today she will take a huge number of calls with a wide variety of questions. She must use her problem solving skills to know when it is OK for a patient to come in later in the day, or if in fact it may require a much more urgent consult time. The SURGICAL nurse gets ready for her busy day ahead. Patients start arriving at 8am for admittance and some days we have 4 vets operating and a list of over 15 surgical procedures to work through. Every nurse has a vet assigned to them to allow continuity of care. She will talk kindly & soothingly to each patient while efficiently placing IV catheters & obtain blood and urine samples to run diagnostic tests for the vet. She then calculates and administers her patients pre anaesthetic medications as instructed. Anaesthetic machines must then be checked & the surgical room fully equipped for the variety of today’s procedures! Once everything is ready, she will assist the vet in the patients induction and intubation, before swiftly attaching all monitoring equipment, as well as manual checks. Once happy the patient is stable, she sterile preps the

patients surgical site. She closely monitors the patient through the entire procedure, alerting the vet to any subtle changes in the patients anaesthetic depth, blood pressure and more. She carefully moves the patient over to a cosy recovery bed, where the hospital nurse is waiting to continue the post operative care. Evening consults are arriving & reception is a hype of activity. Phones are ringing constantly & owners are arriving to pick up their animals from surgery & hospital. The reception nurse expertly talks to owners experiencing a wide range of emotions, from extreme sadness, stress, anxiety, to those who are excited or just plain relieved to be able to see their furry friend once more. She goes over the large variety of discharge information that the vets & nurses have carefully put aside for their patients. The hospital nurse kindly talks to worried owners who are visiting their pets and updates them on the vets plan for overnight care. She carries out her final rounds and ensures everyone gets a cuddle goodnight! She assists the vet in preparing any extremely unwell patients that require transfer to the after hours clinic. At 7pm the last consult has finished, and the doors are closed! The nurses may still be buzzing around for another hour or so, depending on today’s work load. Although sometimes they are totally exhausted (& covered in various unidentified stains & smells!) they go home to their own pets with a big smile on their face. They know each day they assist the vets in making a huge difference to animals lives by putting 100% of time, love, care & knowledge to ensure each furry patient and it’s owner has had the best veterinary service and care possible!!

I am very proud and excited to be the new member of parliament for Christchurch Central. The city has huge opportunities ahead of it and I am looking forward to being part of seizing them. I think there are three simple things we need to keep in mind when ensuring that the city moves in the right direction: People, homes, and incomes – and they are all closely related. We want to make sure that all of our neighbourhoods and communities are great places to live. This will mean working at every level to ensure they are safe and able to be enjoyed by everyone. Some things need to be addressed by central Government – like providing a comprehensive solution for those who are without a home of any kind. Others will require working with the city council – like ensuring that community hubs and shopping centres are attractive, accessible and usable. Of course in the central city, we need

Its early morning and the HOSPITAL nurse is already hard at work, caring for her sometimes numerous & varied hospital patients who have stayed the night. She cuddles & chats away to them reassuringly as if they were her own! Some soiled patients are sponge bathed, while other patients are syringe fed. She checks, untwists and flushes IV catheters, administers morning medications, fresh food & clean bedding is lovingly placed! All observations are recorded ready for the “Vet rounds”, just as in a hospital! The Vets at McMaster & Heap rely heavily on the expertise and thoroughness of our nurses to inform us with regards to the patients in her care. The vets check over their patients, authorize blood tests or radiographs, change medication or nutrition plans and update the owners. Then its back to the hospital nurse to care for the needs of these patients over the course of the day, updating the vet, speaking to the family members involved and organizing visiting times. Excellent time management skills are required to triage the sick arrivals through the day and care for the already sick and injured. Note taking and recording of medications given is of utmost importance. Meanwhile the doors have opened & the RECEPTION nurse is cheerfully assisting the receptionist, greeting a continuous stream of pets and their owners arriving for today’s appointments & procedures!

Our houses need to be of a good quality. The first earthquake was now more than seven years ago, but many houses are not repaired, or have been repaired poorly. I know how stressful this can be, so I look forward to advocating for a prompt settlement of outstanding EQC and insurance claims and defective repairs being addressed properly. Connected to this is ensuring that the city is a great place to work and do business. We need to do this by ensuring that our

city has great infrastructure, and that the people who live here have the knowledge and skills needed. This will be important to make sure we have jobs and prosperous businesses that provide a good income to everyone. I know it’s going to be a huge challenge being the MP for Christchurch Central, and I am really looking forward to it. I am available to discuss any issues that you may be having – just email me at Duncan. Webb@parliament.govt.nz

CONCEPT: The third southbound lane over the Waimakariri River includes a high occupany vehicle lane and cycleway.

Bridge concept drawings released By Julia Evans INITIAL DESIGNS for the third southbound lane across the Waimakariri River have been released. The designs went before the city council’s greater Christchurch partnership committee last Friday after the lane received the final seal of approval by Environment Canterbury. It has been designed for high occupancy vehicles only and includes a clip-on cycleway in a bid to reduce morning congestion of motorists from North Canterbury entering the city. But when releasing the images to Nor’West News a New Zealand Transport Agency spokeswoman said the drawings have not been

finalised, they are only conceptual designs. Detailed designs are now being completed. Work is set to be done in conjunction with current construction on the Northern Corridor to reduce costs from $34 million to $20 million. However, the lane has been a contentious issue for residents in Papanui, Belfast and St Albans who fear it will only increase congestion in the suburbs. On the residents’ behalf, the Papanui-Innes Community Board has been staunchly opposed to the lane. It tried and failed several times to put a stop to the lane and encourage investigations into light rail.

After ECan approved the plan, the board posted on its PapanuiInnes Community Board Facebook page: “Sorry, we tried.” But on the other side of the bridge, residents from North Canterbury were overwhelmingly supportive of the lane in public submissions to ECan. Of the 177 submissions received, 86.5 per cent supported the proposal. “It’s a good result for commuters who use the bridge heading into the city,” acting Waimakariri Mayor Neville Atkinson said. Mr Atkinson said improvements that ease motorway congestion will further enhance Waimakariri as a location for residential and business opportunities.

Neighbourhood Trust grateful for funding hike A MAIREHAU trust has applauded the Papanui-Innes Community Board for increasing its grant by almost $15,000 a year in spite of a cut to the board’s funding pot. Neighbourhood Trust manager Ginny Larsen thanked the board for the money which was approved as part of the strengthening communities grant programme. The organisation received $67,499 per year for the next three years compared to $53,000 for the previous two. However, the increase comes as the board has been hit with an $85,000 cutback from its 2015-16 funding pool. “I know you had some difficult deci-

The money will go towards offering “consistent, community-led work”, she said. That includes programmes and support for older residents and families, running the Mairehau newsletter, exercise classes, community days, free English as a second language classes, and inclusive holiday programmes for children with disabilities. “Having three-year funding means we can plan for the future. It is energising, empowering and results in less time spent in applying for funds and more time making things happen,” Ms Larsen said.

Place your feet in the hands of the professionals For many people, the skills of a podiatrist may be something they think they will never need to access. In fact, these health professionals provide a range of valuable services for that very hard-working part of our body – our feet, which can be subject to a number of health conditions and discomfort issues. As Ian Graham of the Papanui Foot Clinic explains: “Podiatrists treat foot and ankle problems in several different ways. This includes general maintenance such as cutting toe nails and removing corns and hard callouses.” Having a pedicure done in the clean, sterile environment of the podiatry clinic is safer than in a mall-based nail clinic, Ian advises, as the sharing of nail polishes, for example, can lead to cross infections in the nails. As the weather warms up and we swap our closed-in winter footwear for strappy sandals and open-toed shoes, Ian suggests it is an ideal time to have any hard skin that has developed on the toes and back of the heels removed, giving feet a smooth, attractive appearance. Ingrowing toenails, which can cause pain and discomfort, are easily treated at the Papanui Foot Clinic by Ian and his fellow podiatrist Anna Brown. Ian specialises in ingrowing toenail surgery to cure the problem. The ageing process also affects our feet, as it does other parts of the body, and they can start to deteriorate. Ill-fitting shoes that press on the wrong areas can make this worse. The Papanui Foot Clinic podiatrists can help by explaining to patients how the foot functions and moves, and treating problems such as fallen and collapsing arches. They also offer treatment for diabetics, who have particular problems with their

feet such as loss of circulation and loss of feeling. “It’s important for diabetics to keep their feet in good order with regular care,” Ian says. Children often experience foot problems, particularly when they change from one sport to another. Painful heels, for example, are quite common and these can be treated with orthotic support. “We make foot orthotics here at the clinic,” Ian says. “Anyone with heel pain, sore bunions, sore arches, flat feet and lower leg pain can be treated with foot orthotics.” As Ian explains, foot orthotics are special insoles that support the arches of the feet, helping you walk better and alleviating pain. This can help stabilise the feet and can contribute to fall prevention. The Papanui Foot Clinic carries the Dr Comfort footwear range for men and women. These are wider and deeper than standard footwear and are designed for people that have trouble finding shoes to fit. “These have been very successful for patients,” Ian says.“We also advise on the right footwear for children, and help them with stretching programmes to relieve tight muscles.” • The Papanui Foot Clinic is located at 448 Papanui Road, phone 352 6400. It is open Monday to Friday, 9am-5.30pm with evening clinics on Tuesdays and Thursday till 7.30pm.

News Milestone for MeNZ shed By Julia Evans BLOKES, BEERS and a barbecue – that’s how the Bishopdale MeNZ Shed celebrated its third birthday. Shed co-ordinator Richard Rendle said more than 50 people gathered at the Kendal Ave site for the celebrations. And a hardware firm, Comac, from Palmerston North provided the club with a cake and birthday candles to mark the milestone. The group meet twice weekly and retreat to the “man cave”, working on projects to benefit the wider community. Mr Rendle, who has been a member for “most” of the three years said the club is about getting men involved in the community. “We’ve had people who have come and said they’ve retired and basically they’re depressed and say this is the best thing that could have happened,” he said. Mr Rendle said during the three years there have been many projects the club has enjoyed working on from planter boxes for retirement villages, window seats for Women’s Refuge and coffins for stillborn babies. “But the penguin boxes we made for the International Antarctic Centre was something which caught people’s imaginations,” he said.

By Julia Evans THIRTY-SEVEN new parking spots will be added to Casebrook’s Tulett Park with the possibility of more. The move comes after Alison Philip and Jodi Gauci from Nomads United AFC football club made a deputation to the Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board meeting, telling the board finding a park was becoming too difficult. City council staff, members of the community board and sports club met on-site earlier in the year. “A possible location for a new car park was identified by those present,” city council staff said. However, staff said the need for the additional car parking had to be verified through “demand analysis” and funding prioritised through the city council Long Term Plan process. “As a result of the new housing subdivision, four angle parking spaces on Claridges Rd were removed to install a pedestrian safety refuge,” staff said. These parks have been replaced with seven additional parallel parking spaces on Claridges Rd.

Marist Albion sevens star takes award SPORTS MARIST Albion’s Daniel Fransen was named men’s sevens player of the year at the recent Canterbury rugby awards evening. He was one of a number of recipients at the awards last week at The Piano Centre for Music and the Arts. Fransen took out the award after an outstanding

spring sevens series and season with the Canterbury sevens team. He scored 12 tries during the campaign and showed adept goal-kicking abilities to finish with 118 points for the season, 44 of which were scored at nationals. Fransen was also selected in the New Zealand development team.

Other award recipients: •Christchurch’s William Tucker, under-19 player of the year – The young lock was recognised for his diverse skill set, aerial ability and important set-piece contribution, but he also has a significant role off the playing field as a leader within the group. He accumulated an impressive amount of time on the paddock this year, having played every minute of every game throughout the representative season. •Christchurch’s Lucy Anderson and Lincoln’s Rebecca Todd, joint women’s players of the year award – Anderson pairs solid defence with an intelligent attacking mindset and strong ball carrying skills, and exhibits great leadership in the Canterbury backline.

Todd, who is equally as prominent on defence and attack, has played at both No 8 and hooker already this season. She inspires others with her consistently high work rate, on-field organisation and ability to read the game. •Canterbury University’s Sam Godwin, Canterbury development player of the year – His unquenchable thirst for work saw him regularly feature at the high end of individual tackle counts, and his capacity for repeated efforts at a high intensity almost seems endless. •TeRauoriwa Gapper, women’s sevens player of the year – Her fitness, speed and physicality make her an ideal sevens player, and she possesses a high work

PHOTO: CHARLIE ROSE CREATIVE rate, aptitude on defence and the esteemed ability to beat defenders one-on-one. As captain, Gapper led the team to the South Island regional title, as well as the national tournament, and always features prominently whenever she wears the red and black jersey. •Lincoln’s Nick Werahiko, Maori player of the year – He was recently awarded his division one 100-game blazer

for his club and was named Waitaha captain for the second year. He also featured in the Canterbury A side on a number of occasions this season. •Richie Mo’unga, Canterbury rugby supporters club player of the year – The first fiveeighth has had an outstanding success rate with the boot this season and is one of the leading point scorers to date in the Mitre 10 Cup

competition. Mo’unga shows composure and maturity beyond his 23 years as he directs play from the cutter. •Prebbleton life member Tony Grimwood, volunteer of the year for 38-years of commitment to the club – There is no job too big or small for ‘Grimmy’. “It’s a great club with great people. So it is quite easy to see why the years have flown by,” he said.

Kendo team fights way to second at national champs LOCAL KENDO exponents have performed well in a national championship. Kirk Reyes, Yuma Tamaki, both of Edgeware, and Merivale’s Masa Matsunami finished second at the Rembuden Taikai kendo competition in Wellington, which featured about 60 fighters from around the country. They fight for the Sei Tou Ken Yu Kai Canterbury Kendo Club. Kendo is the Japanese martial art of sword fighting in which competitors score by hitting their opponent’s hand, torso or head. The nail-biting final of the team’s open event is one the competitors will not forget. Tamaki said he couldn’t believe the team made it into the final against Auckland’s Daehan Mudo Kwan team, which included two senior New Zealand team members. “At first I was scared of versing them, but after we did our team huddle, all our feelings became one and we were able to do our best against them,” Tamaki said. Reyes said preparing for the final meant thinking about all the things he had learnt over the past few years. “I thought about all of the tips and advice I received from my peers and teachers and thought

about what my best result is and the things I’m most confident about in my kendo,” he said. Fellow club member and Cashmere High student Kai Edwards travelled to the event as well and won the men’s junior dan title. Club coach Blake Bennett said he was pleased to see the club do so well at the national event. “The team has put in an enormous amount of preparation

on and off the dojo floor. They set goals, developed their communication skills and focused on strategy. The result was a group of confident young athletes with a very bright future,” he said. The club’s four female competitors Natsuko Saito, Ria Ellin, Hana Suzuki and Tania Butterfield also fought well in both the individual and team events.

Revamp for St Bede’s gets go-ahead •From page 1 The proposed Grimes building will contain two floors of teaching space for art and cooking classes with toilets and a foyer, built on an old tennis court. And the new sports pavilion has space for two classrooms, changing rooms, bathrooms, first aid space, storage, an officials’ room, and a weight and gym area. “The proposed sports pavilion will be available for use by com-

munity groups outside of school hours,” the plan said. Largely the Marist Hockey Club and its visiting competitors. But before construction begins, the school is working with a contaminant expert. “The site is identified as a contaminated site by Environment Canterbury’s Listed Land Use Register,” the plan said. If necessary, it will have to submit another resource consent regarding the Soil Natural Environmental Standard.

City raining cats and dogs By Mark Thomas – specialist fire investigator I SUPPOSE you could say last week it rained cats and dogs in Christchurch. Well, one of each was rescued by fire crews from under a school in Phillipstown and from a stormwater drain in Woolston respectively. That was early in a week which had a bit of everything for firefighters. A hang glider pilot was carried out to Summit Rd with leg injuries from a crash. This type of incident is a valid reason why I prefer Air New Zealand and a professional pilot before I go too far off the ground. Five people were treated for smoke inhalation when a clothes drier ignited in Rochester St, Linwood, and two more when the Belfast Playcentre caught on fire at a child’s party. As I’ve said a hundred times your health and your safety are more important than any building. Fire smoke is not good for you. Get out, shut the door and ring 111. Our troops have protective clothing, breathing apparatus and training.

Papanui butchery went mobile Papanui Heritage Group archivist Christine Grant writes about the history of a Papanui butchery In the days when most married women were fulltime housewives and owning a refrigerator was a luxury beyond most families, meat was generally purchased by women who walked to the nearest butchery several times a week. One such business with a long history in Papanui was situated at 14 North Rd, opposite the end of what is now Winston Ave. In the 1880s, this shop had been owned and operated by different members of the Ford family until the late 1920s when it was acquired by Arthur Taylor. He was succeeded by Stan Priest in the early 1930s until 1936 when the business was purchased by ST Gibson. Although the shop was located in the middle of the traditional Papanui village area, Mr Gibson changed its name to the Waimairi Butchery, possibly because at this time part of Papanui was still administered by the Waimairi County Council. In August 1936, Mr Gibson advertised “quality mutton” for

HISTORY: In 1940, Jim Southen bought the Waimairi Butchery and his sons ran a home delivery service in Papanui, Bryndwr and Belfast out of the family’s Buick.

three and a half pence (three cents) per pound if a side or quarter was purchased, although such a quantity could have overtaxed the capacity of the standard shopping basket. Gibson had 100 carcasses to sell at this special price. In another advertisement he stated: “We are prepared to sell cheaper mutton than anywhere else in Canterbury. Hotels and restaurants specially catered for.” In 1940, Jim Southen bought the business for ₤300. Two of his sons, Sid and Reg, worked for their father who also ran a home

delivery service in the Papanui, Bryndwr and Belfast areas, utilising a box on the back of the family Buick. The vehicle was later replaced by a van strikingly emblazoned with the name of the business on the sides. In 1957 or 1958, another son, Fred, took over the shop. A butcher’s shop in this period would have displayed the carcasses of mutton, pork and beef hanging from hooks on a rail so that they could be easily slid along when the customer asked for a particular cut of meat.

A large wooden block was located at the end of the counter. The floor was usually covered in sawdust in an attempt to prevent slipping by using a natural material that could be easily disposed. Children loved to scuff their feet through the sawdust and to draw pictures in it. It appears that the last owner of the butchery at 14 North Rd was LJ (Larry) Salt, who operated the business under his own name from 1963-1966. •References: Wises Directories

“A local team for local people”

Whether it be a new build, or a retrofit, most homes include at least one heat pump, if not a whole heating solution. They can provide cheap, clean heat and are much more convenient than a log burner as you just need to press a button. But how do you decide what is best? Choosing the right sized heat pump is key to ensuring optimum comfort levels. Every situation varies and it is therefore important to get professional advice from heat pump experts. The range varies from wall mounted high walls, floor mounted systems, multi systems, ceiling cassettes, right through to ducted central heating systems allowing you to have a very discreet way of heating your whole home to a constant temperature throughout. Firstly, you must select a heat pump that is suitable for the size of the space you wish to heat. Usually a site visit is the best way to ascertain this. Not only is the size of the area taken into consideration but also, insulation, building orientation, windows and ceiling space. There are a wide range of heat pumps available with different heating outputs so it is important to select the correct size for your requirements that will handle the job but not be unnecessarily overpowered. Secondly, the location of your heat pump is also extremely important. The cheapest installation is a back to back where the outdoor unit is positioned directly behind the indoor unit however this is not necessarily always the best option. It is vital that the indoor unit is positioned in a place that will not be

constantly blowing on you. Also important, is the location of the outdoor unit. Most people do not want their outdoor unit sitting directly in their outdoor entertaining area or right outside their bedroom window. Choose a brand you can trust. Many brands have come and gone over the years but there are a number of manufacturers who provide reputable and reliable products. All brands vary in their energy efficiency, quietness of systems and price, so it depends on your application as to which will be most suitable. Major brands such as Panasonic, Fujitsu, Mitsubishi, Daikin, Toshiba and Hitachi are all reliable brands backed up by good technical after sales service. Ensure your heat pump is installed by an accredited installer. This will not only ensure correct installation of your heat pump, but also validate the manufacturers warranty. Other things to consider when choosing a heat pump are time clocks, ease of use of the remote controllers, air filtration and also wifi capabilities. Heating is a major investment in your home and it is vital to get the right advice. Enviro Master Ltd specialise in the supply, installation and servicing of all major brands of heat pumps. Our salesmen are engineers ensuring you get quality, unbiased advice as to which system will suit your application the best. Enviro Master Ltd offer a free, no obligation quote and will come to your home to see what is required. Visit our website at www.enviromaster.co.nz.
